Meredith and I emailed back and forth several times to pick the perfect setting for their engagement portraits. She, being in interior design, loved the idea of a beautiful indoor setting. We also loved the idea of a garden and even though we knew the winter would limit us, we found the perfect setting at White Hall. The crew there invited us in to roam around and we loved it. Plus Meredith and Matt were all smiles and giggles and I'm all about happy faces <3
I only post my absolute favorites. If you'd like to see a full gallery of an engagement session, contact me and I'll send some your way!Read More
I'm not gonna sugar coat it: 2017 started off a little rocky. I had thoroughly exhausted my self in 2016 so I made the decision to cut back on advertising and not push my self so hard on social media. The consequence of that decision meant I had a slower season than expected. My initial thought was "this is great, I'll have time to devote to each client and maybe some time to start some projects!"
Well, I started lots of projects that I didn't quite finish by the end of 2017. I had big ideas. And a vision that I still hold for 2018. And even though my vision is sometimes a little bigger than my means, I am so thankful for the support from my friends and family to help me work on these projects. Not to mention the constant encouragement from my **new husband**. That's right, we tied the not at the end of the wedding season <3
But I definitely got to spend more time with clients this year. I ate dinner with clients. Our phone conversations were less business and more conversation. I really felt like I got to know them. I got to know their real desires for their wedding plans. I learned how photos fit into those goals and how I could contribute to what were great memories.
My one hour sessions turned into two hour sessions. My workflow during portraits slowed down and I was able to be more conscious and controlled with each click of the shutter. I took less photos, as a result. I also got to spend more time playing around with Gifs. Since I had stepped back from social media, I would capture them and fail to show them off. So I decided to show off 2017 with all of the Gifs I captured through out the year. I hope you enjoy this slightly long video and the favorite portraits of 2017 to follow.
I just love when couples bring their puppies along. This sweet pup was so well-behaved. Sarah & Gabe met me downtown at Gratz Park to capture the last of the Autumn leaves. We meandered along busy streets looking for murals and urban areas of Lexington. You wouldn't believe it from the pictures but it was literally freezing outside. They'd take their coats off for a couple minutes at a time for portraits and then we'd bundle up as we moved to another location.Read More
It's a rare occasion that I get to spend enough time with couples. But recently I've had so much luck with my time. Blaire & Dj wanted to spend the second half of their shoot at OBC where DJ is the sous chef. We started out hunting for Fall foliage at the Kentucky Horse Park. When we went to one of my favorite nooks of the park and then got ready for one of the tastiest meals. I photographed them and their plates intermittently between some of the most scrumptious food. We got to chat about the wedding, her ideas, and our equal love for Friends, the T.V. Series. It really was a treat. I'm so excited for their big day next year.Read More
Caitlin & Edward met me in Lexington with their charming pup. They were gracious enough to drive to a remote location off of I-75 where we would follow some train tracks to an inconspicuous trail to a cave. Now, caves are cool pretty much all the time. But they are even cooler when you have a geologist with you. With a dried creek bed and a large opening to the cave, the rock formations were admired through out the session
These two talked with me the whole drive down there, asking how to look cute, and natural, but not too cute, not the fake kind of cute, but not awkward. I giggled as I told them, that's what they all say. So we took our time exploring and I captured a few more natural moments. Then when I started in on the more orchestrated portraits, I told them to whip out their "dad jokes."
I am once again impressed by the cuteness and joy that emerges. This couple in particular put up with my dad jokes and tripping over rocks, while looking fabulous in the portraits I capture. And it was even a pleasure to get some time in the car with them. I laughed so much and can tell these guys will have a good time in any setting. October can't come fast enough.Read More
We were certain it was going to rain this morning. We also feared if we found a window without rain, it would be so muggy and hot. First off, I loved Cate's persistence and willingness to have photos in the rain if we had to. Alas, the morning was the perfect temperature and sunny! Cate & Gren were so fun and sweet. I can't wait for their wedding, rain or shine <3Read More
I was fortunate enough to meet these two on the edge of the West Coast in a charming area called Half Moon Bay. We walked along cliffsides, through majestic forests and down along the foggy ocean tide. Being there was other-worldly. I'm so thankful I had a new change of environment to get my photography juices flowing. It is of course, a great plus that Katie & Taylor were so adorable, adventurous and accommodating.Read More
These guys have since had a beautiful little girl, but I was going over my 2016 portfolio and just had to share these images. Mariah & Aaron were so wonderful and they have a fantastic little family. They took me down a fall foliage filled trail along some foothills as the sun sunk below the treetops.Read More
Hannah has been a friend since Middle School. She introduced me to Blink 182, tattoos and not worrying about what kind of person, others thought I should be. She's been such as strong influence in my life, for the best. We may not have stayed close, but we've always picked up where we left off.
It goes with out saying we met at Rooster Brewery for the engagement. In part to make catching up our first priority, (and maybe for a little liquid courage.) In fact, the hanging out lasted a little longer than I intended and I completely missed the golden hour I was aiming for. When we started the portraits, it was basically dusk in downtown Paris and turned to nighttime before we knew it.
It was perfect. Cause Hannah & Jake confessed they weren't excited about the average frolicking at sunset in flowered fields or woods-kind-of-portraits. They were night owls. They loved this bar, this small town and the end of the day. So the focus of our session was their smiles, their goofing off, and their ability to not take life too seriously. Congrats friends, can't wait for go-carts and mountains in October <3Read More
It's always surprising when a Mother of the Bride contacts and books us. But I did finally meet Molly and Michael at Third Street stuff and we spent way too long making plans for the engagement that may or may not have included water hoses. (We still need to do that.) Alas, when they suggested Michler's Florist, I thought it'd be as dreamy as ever and we'd all hang out for a beer afterwards. Thank you Kentucky Native Cafe for being my favorite place in Kentucky. Thank you for the mimosa pudica's. Thank you Chasity for the assistance, and thank you Molly & Michael for making a very spontaneous session fun an fruitful. You were a dream to photograph <3Read More
We've rescheduled their engagement session too many times to count. Fortunately, I had discovered Joe Ley Antiques and thought these two would love it! So we all trekked to Louisville on a rainy Tuesday and had so much fun recreating American Gothic, and perusing records. We found mirrors, and lots of cool art. Can't wait until October for their big day for more creative shenanigans.Read More
I have so many memories with this lady. From home-made videos inspired by Napoleon Dynamite, Dancing Hamsters and Friends trivia to water slides in her back yard, to struggling with Spanish class and mostly just standing around on a soccer field with bright yellow jerseys. Suzie is such a big part of what made me, me (Christine, here.) I was so excited when she asked me to photograph her engagement. Her and Mitch are so fun, and so funny. They had awesome locations picked out near their homestead in Nulu, Louisville and we ended the night on the River. I could do this day over and over again. Not to mention, they picked practically the only sunny day. They are the lucky ones.Read More
I won't go into great detail as to how we gained access to the rooftops of Buffalo Trace Distillery. What I will say, is our clients are bold. Our clients love the opportunity to plan their engagement session with a slightly unconventional approach. It's the reason we are who we are. Love is bold, and it takes daring souls to jump in with everything they have. We love that engagement sessions reflect that.
Not to mention, ending the night on a family farm with the fur-babies, walking along ridgetops at sunset and cuddling in your grandmother's hand sewn quilt. Beautiful, Bold and Timeless are our only words for Stacey & LeeDrew.Read More
Sometimes we get to scout places ahead of time, and make grand plans for engagement sessions. And then sometimes a snow storm throws those plans out the window. Its one of the many great things about my job.
Larissa & Casey are from Florida, so snow is a relatively new treat for them. Even though our original plans didn't work out, the snow ended up a perfect backdrop for these two love birds. They were in such great spirits. They frolicked and very successfully took on the cold. It's these little unexpected adventures that make our jobs so cool.Read More
Cheyenne and Philip contacted us when they were in Germany. We originally had a German Christmas Market in Cincinnati planned for their engagement. Alas, the weather was not on our side and the Holidays always make it difficult to reschedule. But we did find a tuesday afternoon free and decided to go to one of our favorite places in Lexington: Michler's Florist. We are huge fans of green houses, greenery, glass roofs, all of the things we find at Michler's. We stopped by a sun-soaked field at the Arboretum and ended the night downtown. Funny how perfect things turn out. Almost like it was meant to be.
Big thank you to Michler's for being kind hosts. And big thank you to these two for adventuring with us.Read More
Vanesa & Andy met at Molly Brooks. They sat at the same corner of the bar when they started their love story as you'll see below. They brought their darling old puppy Dottie, who wouldn't leave their side and ventured a few blocks of Lexington with me. The light was perfect, the December day was oddly warm, and we had so much fun. Big thanks to Vanesa & Andy for tackling a December Engagement with me.Read More
I'm first going to apologize for the amount of photos in this blog. The light was just perfect and Megan & Alex were such wonderful subjects. It could not have gone better. Can't wait for next year to follow these two around some more on their big day. <3Read More
We have been so busy that we are REALLY behind on our blogs. We met with Brittany and Jason in May for their engagement session, and have just been nonstop ever since. They both graduated from UK so the first stop was in front of the wildcat statue, where tradition is you have to ride it drunk sometime before you graduate ( I might have made that part up). We then went on to an abandoned distillery, and some old forgotten greenhouses. It was a really great session for us, and so laid back! We can't for their wedding this October!Read More
